CT-Scan

We can now perform CAT scan procedures in less time with a lower radiation dose and higher diagnostic value. An intelligent combination of radiology and cardiology clinical capabilities in a feature-rich configuration ensures that 128 slice SCENARIA provides extremely powerful clinical information. This state of the art equipment helps us to enhance patient care and expand clinical applications while lowering radiation dose.

CT or CAT scans, revolutionized x-ray diagnosis by allowing physicians to view wafer-thin cross-sections of internal anatomy, all without the need for surgery. CT accomplishes this by bringing together the imaging capabilities of the x-ray with the highly sophisticated processing power of computers. CT is used for a broad spectrum of imaging needs. For example: Brain, Spine, Neck, Chest, Sinuses, Abdomen, Joints, CT also is used to evaluate the extent of trauma injuries.

MRI

Oasis 1.2 Tesla Open MRI system sets a high standard for patient-centric care and it’s the only one of it’s kind in El Paso. A unique achievement in high-performance imaging, the Oasis truly open architecture features high magnet uniformity, Zenith RF Technology and advanced imaging capabilities to achieve high throughput diagnostic performance.
The Oasis Open MRI provides clinical capabilities that rival those of many high field closed type systems.
• High field strength, super conducting for excellent image quality.
• A comfortable patient experience- patients can see all around.
• Fast scans and RADAR motion compensation to minimize patients’ study time.
• 650 lbs. Table weight capacity.

Molecular Breast Imaging

Molecular breast imaging (MBI) is an FDA approved technology used in addition to mammography in detecting breast cancers as small as 5mm. MBI uses an injection of a short lived radiotracer (tc-99m sestamibi), at a relatively low dose, that accumulates more in cancerous tissue than it does in normal tissue. After the sestamibi has been administered, patients are imaged with a special scanner that can show where the sestamibi has accumulated. Because cancerous tissue accumulates more than normal tissue, the images show clear differentiation between tumors and surrounding tissue.

MBI is not a replacement for mammography, it is a supplemental exam that is used in addition to mammography. Dense breast tissue as an example, could cause the findings from a mammogram to be inconclusive. Studies have also shown that mammograms are less effective in identifying cancers in dense breasts, because, in mammograms, cancers can appear white, which is the same for dense breast tissue. As a result, tumors may be masked by dense breast tissue and secondary screening may be helpful in ruling out the presence of cancer. Mammograms are best for structural anatomical imaging, while MBI offers molecular functional imaging enabling your doctor to see physiologic function for both healthy and diseased tissue.

X-Ray

An x-ray (radiograph) is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions. Imaging with x-rays involves exposing a part of the body to a small dose of ionizing radiation to produce pictures of the inside of the body. Southwest X-Ray provides a complete radiography suite.
Lower gastrointestinal (GI) tract radiography, also called a lower GI or barium enema, is an x-ray examination of the large intestine, also known as the colon. This examination evaluates the right or ascending colon, the transverse colon, the left or descending colon, the sigmoid colon and the rectum. The appendix and a portion of the distal small intestine may also be included.
Upper gastrointestinal tract radiography, also called an upper GI, is an x-ray examination of the pharynx, esophagus, stomach and first part of the small intestine (also known as the duodenum) that uses a special form of x-ray called fluoroscopy and an orally ingested contrast material called barium.

Mammography

Mammography is the most effective method for detecting a breast cancer in the earliest, most easily treatable stage, long before it can be detected by physician examination. Screening mammography is used for women who are not experiencing any symptoms. A diagnostic mammogram may be ordered when a woman is experiencing pain, a discharge, if they have found a lump, or when a screening mammogram reveals an abnormality or suspicious area.

Southwest X-Ray provides a secure, private and convenient mammography suite, with personal attention to every patient. We don’t utilize uncomfortable vans in the parking lot.

Ultrasound

We provide specialized exams for breast imaging, pediatric, vascular and musculoskeletal ultrasounds.

Our noninvasive Vascular Laboratory is one of the key components of our ultrasound services. Non-invasive testing allows patients to be examined using Doppler/Color flow ultrasound techniques free of the risks and discomforts of other exams.
